Amateur Chamber Music at MinM
Manhattan in the Mountains®, a program of the Catskill Mountain Foundation, offers highly personalized, rigorous musical training in solo and chamber music for violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists, ages 13 and up, working under the guidance of an internationally renowned faculty. Nestled in the Catskill Mountains two hours from New York City, the festival provides a uniquely individual approach to developing musicianship.
Established in 2012 as a summer music festival for violin, viola, cello, and piano students ages 13 and up, MinM offers a minimum of 2 private lessons per week, daily chamber music rehearsals, two chamber coachings per week, and three to five hours of scheduled practice time every day. Much of the focus is on developing technical and musical skills on one's instrument, and learning ensemble playing techniques in small groups of strings both with and without piano. These ensembles mix students with assistant faculty cellists and violists to give the students the experience of working with and being directly inspired by professional players.
MinM is situated in the town of Hunter in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, two hours north of New York City. In the winter this is a major ski resort, but in the summer it becomes a haven for vacationers escaping the heat of the city. A beautiful creek runs through town, adding to the unspoiled natural beauty of the environment.
