David Seay is offering a harmonica workshop in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse on Saturday, August 3, 2019 starting at 1:00 PM. The fee is $20.00 per participant. The fee includes a free Clearly Colorful 10 hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C major.
The first part of the workshop will focus on playing melodies using the straight harp (1st position) approach. It will be suitable even for folks (2nd grade and older) who have never played harmonica before. The tunes presented will gradually get more challenging. Handouts for the straight harp tunes will be provided so if a participant isn’t able to conquer a tune during the workshop she or he will at least know how to proceed to work the tune up at home. Lip pursing, tongue blocking, and different ways to hold the harmonica will be explored.
The second part of the workshop will focus on cross harp (2nd position) and will help get folks jamming to some easy blues progressions. Various techniques, such as bending of individual notes, wailing, and wah-wah will be introduced.
