Great fun was had by all at Saturday's Play-In, with over 20 local musicians, ACMP members and others participating. We had a mix of strings, winds and piano groups. My favorite session was playing oboe quartets by two British composers, Gordon Jacob and Alan Rawsthorne. The Jacob sounded like English folk melodies while we thought the Rawsthorne sounded like a British twist on Bartok.
Yes, the Gordon Jacob Oboe Quartet is a lovely piece. I've also played and enjoyed the Prelude, Passacaglia and Fugue for violin and viola (need to get back to that one). I hope someday to play his Suite for Eight Violas!
