The Chamber Music Network

Live Stream Masterclass - Tango and Classical String Quartets, Feb 10, 2:30 - 4:30pm EST

In ACMP's first ever virtual program, PubliQuartet guided two learning quartets in a string masterclass. Chamber music players at all levels participated remotely, individually or in goups, and posted questions and comments through a live chat feed. The program featured Oblivion by Astor Piazzola and Prokofiev's popular String Quartet no. 2 mvt. 2. The free masterclass was accessible from computers worldwide.

In a two-hour masterclass, award-winning string quartet PubliQuartet conducted back-to-back sessions with two learning quartets at the National Opera Center, New York City. A multi-camera crew from VirtualArtsTV delivered every detail of the workshop in a close-up, real-time high-quality stream. Chamber music players wherever they are participated in groups, ensembles, or individually on their computers and devices, gaining tips and insights into playing technique and interpretation on two chamber music works. Participants engaged with the class throughout the session via a live chat feed, connecting with the event and each other. Online participants experienced the session as if they were in the room.

Exploration of Oblivion for string quartet by Astor Piazzolla gave participants an opportunity to gain tips and insights into the special demands of playing tango chamber music. The second work featured in the masterclass was Prokofiev's popular String Quartet No. 2, 2nd movement. The learning quartets included a student ensemble from Mannes College, New York (Piazzolla), and Augmented 4 String Quartet, young musicians from Connecticut (Prokofiev). The masterclass came to an end with a performance by PubliQuartet featuring Piazzolla’s Libertango (Arr. Curtis Stewart) and Jessie Montgomery’s Voodoo Dolls. PubliQuartet furnished brief background and performance insights for each piece.

The masterclass was SOLD out.
