About the Festival

The Lago Maggiore Festival di Chitarra VI Edition 2021 is open to musicians of all ages and levels. The Lago Maggiore (large lake) is situated in the Piemonte region, in northern Italy. It is located between the cities of Turin and Milan, not far from Switzerland, Germany and France, and it is only 45 minutes away from Malpensa airport. We welcome participants who are willing to exchange music experiences, rehearse and perform concerts in the city of Verbania. In the past editions, we received guitar, voice, piano, and flute players from countries such as Switzerland, England and France. The in-person component of the Festival will take place from the 24th to the 27th of June. It will be preceded by three online sessions (send an email to get information about the meetings. Some meetings have already began and can be held in person) to be held during the months of April and May. Due to the The focus of the program is to improve guitar playing skills through chamber music practice and masterclasses. Although players of all instruments are welcome, most chamber music groups formed during the festival include, at least, one guitar. Exceptionally this year, due to the pandemics, the festival will spread over the period of three months (April-June). There will be three previous preparatory meetings to be held online: one in April and two in May. These meetings will be important to set ideas, organize groups and initiate the rehearsals. During a four day period in June, everyone will meet and practice the works prepared for the occasion. Like in previous editions, there will be concerts every night where participants will be invited to play before the faculty’s concerts. Coaches will play in various chamber music formations such as classical guitar duos, trios with piano, and an Early Music Concert with the duo Sandro Volta (Lute) and Maurizia Barazzoni (Soprano). Players will also perform the music created in collaboration with composers during the closing concert of the festival.
