ICMSS courses provide the opportunity to play a wide range of chamber music in both tutored and informal sessions. Participants work on up to six different works in varying ensembles with professional tutors through the week so during the three sessions on each piece, pieces are studied in depth. ICMSS has access to a large library of sheet music of not just well-known works, but rarer works. This also includes works in unusual instrumental combinations which are easy to set-up on a course like this but normally more challenging outside this environment. The course provides the time, opportunity and facilities to do this. There is no formal concert at the end of the course but groups can play through part of their works to the rest of the participants at an informal “play-through”. Another highlight is the two concerts performed by the tutors where they demonstrate not just their skills but the chamber music and ensemble techniques on which they have been coaching during the week. These concerts are an integral part of the learning experience for participants.
