Brenda coaches both individuals and ensembles at beginner, intermediate, and advanced playing levels. Brenda is open to online coaching sessions and lessons.
I offer private cello lessons, chamber music coaching, wellness-informed support, and short music history courses and presentations for adult musicians, returning players, and lifelong learners. My teaching focuses on musical expression, technical ease, thoughtful practice, ensemble awareness, historical context, and helping each player grow from where they are.
I coach cello repertoire, chamber music, ensemble skills, listening, interpretation, and preparation for informal or public performance. I also work with cellists who want help returning to playing after time away, building confidence, improving practice habits, or exploring unaccompanied repertoire.
My wellness-informed coaching includes stretching, breathing, warm-up and cool-down routines, body awareness, injury-aware playing habits, and strategies for managing performance nerves. The goal is to help musicians, especially string players, play with greater ease, confidence, and sustainability.
I also offer short courses and presentations drawing on my specialization in organology — the study of musical instruments — with particular focus on cello history, repertoire, performance practice, historical instruments, and the cultural context of chamber music.
In addition to private teaching, I am the founder and director of the Bethany Beach Cellofest, a welcoming, non-competitive retreat for adult cellists that includes classes, coaching, ensemble playing, community events, and opportunities to reconnect with music in a supportive setting.
