The period between the Wars was a hotbed of innovation bustling with new styles and means of expression. Erich Korngold straddles the line between golden lyricism and unbridled bravado with a rare late Romantic treasure: the “Suite for two violins, cello & piano left-hand, Op. 23”, and Pavel Haas mingles Czech folk songs with fanciful dances and prayerful synagogue music with his “Wind Quintet, Op. 10”. Darius Milhaud offers a joy-filled homage to the Jazz Age in his “La création du monde – Suite de concert pour piano et quatour à cordes, Op. 81b”, and George Rochberg paints a shimmering portrait of the floating worlds “in Between Two Worlds (Ukiyo-e III) for flute & piano”.
