The Manhattan String Quartet is excited to offer a workshop on Beethoven’s Quartet in E Minor, opus 59#2 from Sunday, June 25th to Saturday, July 1st, 2023. We will be at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, where the quartet is held this conference for many years, focusing on a single masterpiece from the quartet canon. Places are still available for a few violinists and violists. Matched-level participants are placed in quartets which rotate daily. Each day includes four hours of intensive coaching (movement by movement), a lecture by noted theoretician and musicologist David Clampitt and illustrated by the quartet, and plenty of time for free-lance readings of other repertoire. A special event this year will be a talk by Jan Swafford, composer and author of the definitive “Beethoven–Anguish and Triumph”.
