About the Workshop

The Oxford Cello School (OCS) is an international cello and double bass summer school founded in 1980 by Marianne Gottfeldt to provide a unique opportunity for cellists and bassists to focus on their instrument and receive the very best tuition in an intensive environment. This remains our philosophy. Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff, as well as other course members, provide inspiration and encouragement which stimulates students to develop previously unexploited potential.
Adult Advanced Course
The Adult Advanced course is designed for students of grade 7 to post grade 8 standard who want to push their playing to the limit in a friendly, engaging atmosphere. The course is filled with opportunities to explore new, exciting cello repertoire and to develop technically and musically with inspiring teachers at the very top of their profession. Visiting professors in 2019 are Sung-Won Yang and Catherine Ardagh-Walter. Adult Advance Course: Sunday 19th – Sunday 26th July.
Adult Improvers
Adult Improvers courses are designed for adults of up to advanced standard who wish to refresh and revitalise their playing, or who feel they have plateaued technically and are looking to get to the next stage of development in their playing. The courses are crammed with opportunities to improve. Adult Improvers Plus: 8 days, Sunday 19th – Sunday 26th July; Adult Improvers: 5 days, Sunday 19th – Thursday 23rd July.
