About the Workshop

Join Baroque Music Montana in Bozeman, MT, August 12–16 for an immersive period performance workshop designed for both modern and baroque musicians. This dynamic program explores original sources and stylistic clues for today’s performers, with a focus on varied articulation, rhetorical and communicative playing, ornamentation, improvisation, and a relaxed, centered physical approach to music-making. Participants will also engage with the broader cultural context of the repertoire while enjoying a mix of large and small ensembles, lectures, private lessons, and some events just for good musical fun! Instruction is thoughtfully tailored to a range of experience levels.

Open to students, dedicated amateurs, and professional musicians (ages 14+), the workshop welcomes players of violin, viola, cello, winds, keyboard instruments, and guitar or lute with at least four years of experience and adequate reading skills, with viols, singers, and other instruments considered upon request. Enrollment is limited to 50 participants to ensure a personalized experience. Led by an outstanding faculty—Carrie Krause, Manami Mizumoto, Joe Crouch, Lucas Harris, and Kathie Stewart—the workshop takes place at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Bozeman. Tuition is $450 for the full workshop or $380 without Chamber II, with optional private lessons available. Learn more and register at www.baroquemusicmontana.org/workshop
