Have you ever wanted to experience playing in a small ensemble like a piano trio, string quartet, or woodwind quintet? Whether you are an old hand at chamber music or just looking to get started, this “Play-In” is for you. The South Shore is home to many enthusiastic and talented amateur musicians. While numerous organizations in the area provide amateur musicians with a chance to play in a large ensemble such as a band or orchestra, opportunities to play in a small ensemble are more difficult to come by. To fill this void, several area musicians are teaming with the South Shore Conservatory (SSC) to create regular opportunities for playing in small groups by building a community of amateur players who are eager to delve into the chamber music repertoire.
The SSC will host a series of Play-In events, where amateur musicians can meet each other and make music. Play-In activities will be facilitated by a small group of SSC teaching artists, who will assist the participants as they read through pre-selected pieces from the chamber music repertoire in small groups.
This Play-In event is open to musicians who play a string or woodwind instrument (including French horn), or piano. To the extent possible, participants will be organized into groups and repertoire for each group will be sent out prior to the event. Due to space constraints, we are limited to approximately 30 musicians. While registration will be first come, first served to the extent possible, some consideration may be given to instrumental balance. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible, and no later than Sunday, 18 February, whether we are able to accommodate them at this event. Payment ($15 registration fee) will be due at that time.
