About the Workshop

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be streaming a Swedish Fiddle Tunes Workshop for folks who play violin/fiddle, viola, cello, bass, mandolin, soprano recorder and alto recorder.  The workshops will be on Tuesday, April 19, from 7 PM – 8 PM (CT) and Wednesday, April 20, from 10 AM – 11 AM (CT).  During these workshops we will play and discuss tunes from the Greenblatt & Seay publication,  “Swedish Fiddle Tunes for Two”. Different tunes will be played at each session. A treble clef version of the sheet music for the tunes being played will be displayed on Zoom’s screen during the workshop. The cost for each workshop is $10.00. The cost of each optional book is $15.00 (includes shipping if ordered with workshop registration).

“…49 Swedish folk tunes in a very friendly duo format…mostly first position, unpronounceable titles—easy enough to be a pleasure from second grade up and lively enough for an improvisatory fiddle for advanced players. An attractive option for a teacher to play along with a student… Guitar chords are also marked. Swedish gems…their website bulges with interesting fiddle compilations at reasonable prices…”
– David van Gend
Stringendo , Journal of the Australian Strings Association, 2010

“…an excellent addition to music of other cultures. These tunes are largely dance-based, including the polka, march, waltz, schottische, and music for weddings…well-edited collection…highly recommended as good repertoire for any studio and curriculum.”
– Brenda Mitchell, Jan Farrar Royce
American String Teacher , February 2011
