About the Play-In

Calling all female and non-binary upright bassists: come play, connect, and celebrate the joy of ensemble music!

Join us for a joyful afternoon of music-making, connection, and community at the Women in Bass Play-In — a gathering that celebrates and centers female and non binary identifying double bassists. Open to all styles, intermediate and up experience levels encouraged — from jazz to classical and everything in between — this event is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and fun.

The Play-In offers a rare opportunity to connect with fellow bassists, play in small ensembles, build community and explore a variety of music written specifically for double bass.

Ages 16 and up are welcome. Event runs from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., with three 60-minute sessions and a refreshment break and social (with a raffle!). Space is limited, so RSVP EARLY!

We do ALL the work for you:

— provide the facilities

— select the repertoire (you can suggest rep too)

— provide links for e-copy of the repertoire

— match people into ensembles with repertoire

All you have to do is:

— show up and meet fellow musicians

— have a great time playing in three sets of music

All in a comfortable, casual, encouraging, and non-competitive environment! Prep if you’d like or sight-read!

Tiered pricing to accomodate everyone who wants to join. Please reach out to Casey (caseylipka@gmail.com) if finances are a barrier to participating, we want this to be accessible to all who’d like to join, come!

Your event registration fee is fully refundable if cancelled within two weeks of the event. (This takes a lot of planning, and late drop-outs require considerable rework). Simply reply to your registration confirmation email to request a refund.

If you have suggestions for repertoire, please email links for the music to Casey: caseylipka@gmail.com by May 1st. Bring hardcopy or your own virtual copy of your music and please bring a music stand!

The repertoire and schedule, along with links to public domain e-copy of music, will be sent out one to two weeks before the event start.

This Play-In is made possible, in part, through the support of Associated Chamber Music Players (www.acmp.net). The mission of ACMP is to stimulate and expand the playing of chamber music for pleasure among musicians worldwide, of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels, by connecting people and supporting chamber music activities for individuals, groups and institutions.

With support by Lemur Music, Two Rooms, raffle giveaways by Eight Five One Jewelry and tchotchkes provided by LA Bass Works! Food will be provided by Sweetgreen.
