About the festivals

This eight-day program (9 am – 4 pm) is designed to immerse students in all aspects of chamber music, including two private lessons, daily chamber ensemble rehearsals and coachings, music theory, ear-training, music history and appreciation, performance practice, large ensembles, performance classes, and sight-reading classes. The program will conclude with a performance on Thursday afternoon, July 3.

Chamber Ensembles give students the opportunity to explore great works of music under the guidance of a master teacher in an intimate setting where each student is challenged to broaden their musical perspectives, contribute fully, and inspire and be inspired by the other ensemble members. Students are placed in chamber ensembles based upon their skill level; chamber ensembles meet twice every day.
Students are placed with a teacher for two 50-minute Private Lessons during the program; in each lesson, a master teacher will work with each student on the literature being rehearsed in chamber ensembles.

Music Theory and Ear-Training, Sight-reading, and Technique classes will help students develop a deeper theoretical knowledge of music and dramatically improve their performance skills. Music History and Appreciation Classes expand students’ musical and historical knowledge about music and composers. Performance Classes will give each chamber ensemble an additional opportunity to share their work with faculty and fellow students, discuss the technical and stylistic challenges of their music, and improve their ensemble performance skills. Each day also includes snack breaks, a lunch break (students need to bring a bag lunch), and
recreation time.
NEW! Join the festival for an additional day before the 8-day program starts! On Monday, June
23, from 9 am-3 pm, students will have a chance to practice on their own, get coached on
their assigned repertoire by teachers and assistants, meet and rehearse with their chamber
groups. The day will include a listening and music appreciation class, allowing each student be best prepared for the Chamber Music Festival program. Snacks will be provided but students will need to bring their own lunch.
