Fundación Marcato is a nonprofit music education and cultural organization based in Bogotá, Colombia, dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to learn, make, and share music.
Marcato develops educational and artistic programs for children, youth, and adults, combining individual and collective music learning with ensemble practice, creative projects, and public performance. Its activities include guitar ensembles, Colombian traditional string ensembles, vocal and songwriting projects, chamber music, and other collaborative music-making experiences.
An important part of Marcato’s work is providing opportunities for adult amateur musicians to participate actively in music. Through small ensembles, guitar groups, duos, trios, quartets, and Colombian plucked-string ensembles, participants develop their musicianship while experiencing the social and artistic value of making music together.
Marcato also promotes intergenerational participation and seeks to expand access to high-quality music education and ensemble experiences in Colombia. Through its educational programs, performances, workshops, community activities, and partnerships, Fundación Marcato aims to build sustainable communities around active music-making and lifelong musical learning.
