On Tuesday, July 16, Corinne Bergeron presented ACMP’s annual Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award to CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians – Musiciens Amateurs du Canada) in Harrington, Québec. CAMMAC is the first international recipient of this award since it was launched in 2016.
Corinne serves as Chamber Music Coordinator at CAMMAC and as ACMP’s Québec representative on its North American Outreach Council (NAOC.)
Each year, ACMP’s Board of Directors gives the Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award for Excellence and Diversity in Chamber Music to a chamber music organization or ensemble demonstrating an outstanding record of chamber music education to diverse communities. The award is given in honor of former ACMP Board Member and long-time newsletter editor Susan McIntosh Lloyd (1935 – 2018) and celebrates her life-long commitment to education.
CAMMAC was nominated for this award by long-time former ACMP board member Jane Stein Wilson, who has attended CAMMAC’s workshop 44 times! CAMMAC is the ideal recipient of this award as it shares ACMP’s exact mission, expressed on CAMMAC’s website as:
To encourage people of all ages and levels to experience the joy of making and sharing music, together, in a welcoming, supportive environment.
In many ways, CAMMAC is ACMP’s sister organization in Canada. Both are historic membership organizations for amateur musicians, with ACMP founded in 1947 and CAMMAC just a few years later in 1953. While our organizations have a shared mission, we differ in our circumstances and activities. CAMMAC’s musical focus is more general, while ACMP is dedicated exclusively to chamber music. While CAMMAC’s constituents are all Canadian, ACMP is international in its scope. CAMMAC has a physical chamber music center and runs its own workshops for amateur musicians, whereas ACMP has administered the world’s first and only grants program for amateur chamber music since the formation of ACMP Foundation in 1993. ACMP is delighted to support CAMMAC with our Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award.
Congratulations, CAMMAC – and here’s to your continued advocacy and high-quality workshops for Canadian amateur musicians of all ages and backgrounds for many more years to come!
