Chamber music is at the heart of violist, coach, and artistic director Leslie Tomkins’ musical life. She has performed with outstanding chamber musicians across the country and brings that same artistry and care to her work with young students and adult amateurs.
A co-founder of the Moab Music Festival, Leslie served as Artistic Director for 31 years and now holds the title of Artistic Director Emerita. She is also the Artistic Director of Summertrios (summertrios.org), a program devoted to coaching and performance opportunities for adult amateur musicians of all levels. She currently serves on the chamber music faculty at Hoff-Barthelson Music School.
In her work with amateur adults, Leslie has also coached at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Alaria, Music Etc., and the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop, and she maintains an active private studio. Grounded in a deep knowledge of the repertoire and ensemble craft, her teaching emphasizes listening, collaboration, and practical rehearsal tools in a warm, supportive environment that helps musicians grow in confidence and joy.
