This past October ACMP Film Club welcomed back documentary filmmaker Hilan Warshaw for an insightful discussion of his film, Through the Darkness. The event, held shortly after the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg’s birth, explored the story of two extraordinary figures: composer Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) and Austrian Expressionist painter Richard Gerstl (1883-1908).
Through the Darkness, produced by Overtone Films, explores the turbulent relationship between these two artistic visionaries, united by their passion for art and their tragic connection to the same woman. This entanglement not only led to Gerstl’s untimely death but also left a profound mark on Schoenberg’s revolutionary musical legacy.
ACMP members can watch “Through the Darkness” for free anytime up until the time of the event through an exclusive members only link. Log into the ACMP website and click on this MEMBER BENEFIT LINK.
