On June 27, 2022 the Chair of ACMP Foundation, Peter Aupperle, presented ACMP’s 2022 Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award to the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains, New York at its annual fundraising gala at Brae Burn Country Club. The award was accepted by MCW’s Executive Director Jean Newton, PhD.
This annual award celebrates the late Susan McIntosh Lloyd and her commitment to chamber music education. Susan was a passionate amateur chamber violist and long-time ACMP Board Member and newsletter editor for 21 years (before Kitty Benton) with a distinguished academic career.

The Music Conservatory of Westchester (MCW) was founded in 1929, right at the beginning of the Great Depression. From the outset, its founders (among them, the renowned cellist Pablo Casals!) were committed to making music education accessible to everyone through a robust scholarship program.
To this day, MCW serves 3,000 students of all ages and abilities every year. In keeping with ACMP’s mission, they provide scholarship assistance to people from pre-kindergarten through retirement age, so that virtually anyone with a passion for music can participate. The conservatory offers discounts to seniors on private lessons taking place on weekdays before 3pm and chamber music instruction is offered at zero or low cost to students of all ages registered for instrumental lessons. MCW is specifically working on expanding its chamber music offerings for adult players.
The Susan McIntosh Lloyd Award comes with a symbolic cash prize of $1000. The Music Conservatory of Westchester plans to use the award to help fund coaches for their upcoming adult chamber music weekend workshop on October 23, 2022.
All of us at ACMP congratulate the Music Conservatory of Westchester on this award, and look forward to further collaborations with their community.
