American Composers Orchestra (ACO) and ACMP cordially invite you to
The Great American Play-In
Saturday, September 13, 2025
Opera America
330 7th Ave 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001
2pm – 5pm: All-American chamber music party
5pm: Happy Hour
Admission is FREE but please be sure to RSVP by 11:59pm on Sunday, August 24.
For the first time in both organizations’ history, the American Composers Orchestra (ACO) is partnering with Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP) on a fun and festive chamber music Play-In focused entirely on chamber music by twentieth-century and living American composers.
All instruments and playing levels are welcome! Sight-reading ability is a plus, but we will try to send everyone links to parts and scores by Monday, September 8 in case you want to practice. We will take turns playing in small groups in multiple rooms, and then everyone will join forces for some open-instrumentation compositions, including Deep Listening and graphic scores by Pauline Oliveros and other American composers.
Anyone can join in on the big group pieces, even if they don’t play an instrument – voices, found objects, and toy instruments are all welcome and part of the fun!
The Play-In will be followed by a Happy Hour reception in the library at 5pm.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet new musical friends and embark on new uncharted repertoire adventures.
NOTE: We will try our best to place everyone in at least one small group, but please be aware that depending on the instrumentation of the other players and the available players, we may not be able to accommodate everyone. Either way, come one, come all – and bring your instrument or other sound-making device for the large-group musical merriment.
Let’s have a party and celebrate American composers!
