Oregon-based violinist Anthea Kreston (formerly of the Artemis Quartet and now in the Delgani Quartet) is offering a discount to ACMP members to participate in her new music-related BOOK CLUB on Zoom!
a six-week, interactive Book Club – a page-turning mystery by Paul Adam – live music, virtual tours of Italy, fun conversation…Most importantly…the book’s protagonist is an adult amateur string quartet!
The first session is happening on Saturday July 2 at 9:00 am to 10:30 am Pacific time. Sessions will take place every Saturday at the same time through August 6, but are also available on demand.
(Be sure to select ACMP Member in the dropdown menu when you register.)
About her new book club, Anthea writes:
“I want to let you all know about a fun new adventure I am embarking on. As you may know, I ran a book club on Norman Lebrecht’s Slipped Disk for several years, called the Fortnightly Music Book Club. I decided to relaunch, this time in an interactive, zoom format. And, of course, I have a deep discount for my favorite audience – ACMP members!
I learned so much about online education while parenting two daughters through the pandemic, and running my virtual music school, Inside Music Academy. I am so excited to put this interactive course together.
It’s going to be packed with fun – we will be reading Paul Adam’s “Paganini’s Ghost” – it’s a super page-turning murder mystery based in Cremona. The fun starts there – and with visits from the author, a trip to a violin maker’s shop (the main character is a violin maker from Cremona), and even guest virtuosos performing music from the book for us, it’s bound to be an immersive and engaging time. You can come in real time, or access the meetings on your own time.
We will have conversations, take virtual tours to locations in the book (let’s peek inside legendary concert halls in Cremona, Venice, Florence and Rome), and branch out to talk about the music and history of Paganini and more. We will also have the chance to craft our own virtual itinerary of the book to share, using Google Earth.”
Order “Paganini’s Ghost” and read the first three chapters before the first meeting.
(From what I have heard, you won’t be able to put it down, though!)
I hope you all will take Anthea up on this fun offer!
