ACMP’s first master class with the Kronos Quartet was a hit and the second one is right around the corner!
Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm Eastern on Zoom and live-streamed on YouTube
Three quartets will play for Kronos Quartet founding second violinist John Sherba and violist Hank Dutt. (And one of the three groups is a saxophone quartet!)
The ensembles were encouraged to browse through the Kronos Quartet’s extensive 50 for the Future Online Library of new works commissioned for the Kronos Quartet’s 50th Anniversary. They chose pieces by three amazing composers Angélique Kidjo’s YanYanKliYan Senamido ; Fodé Lassana Diabaté’s Sunjata’s Time, arranged for saxophone quartet; and Wu Man’s Two Chinese Paintings.
I highly recommend that you click on the links for each piece and download the scores (for free!) so you can follow along. On the web page for each piece, you can also listen to the Kronos Quartet’s recording and watch interviews with each composer.
If you come up with any questions about the pieces, members of the Kronos Quartet will answer them at the end of the class.
