ACMP is thrilled to announce the recipient of the 2018 Susan McIntosh Lloyd award for excellence and diversity in chamber music education. This year, the award is given to the Chamber Music Center of NYC (CMC), under the leadership of Artistic Director Mary Jo Pagano, pictured right.
CMC‘s mission is to connect the world through chamber music – a mission closely aligned to the founding mission of ACMP. CMC believes in the power of chamber music to connect people and does that through free public concerts, outreach concerts, educational programs and workshops. Their annual programs include classes and workshops for young musicians of all ages and level, adult intensive weekend workshops, masterclasses, international exchange programs and an annual summer camp for young musicians.
CMC‘s faculty of experienced and passionate chamber music professionals share decades of teaching and performing experience. Through their understanding of both the music and the collaborative process, they guide both young musicians and adult amateurs as they challenge and inspire each participant to achieve his or her goals.
On a recent visit to CMC at the National Opera Center, where many of their classes and workshops take place, excited young musicians gathered and prepared for their sessions, instruments in hand. CMC students were joined by young musicians from Switzerland in a cultural exchange program designed to share chamber music and friendship internationally. The high level of energy and engagement generated by particpation in chamber music was a joy to experience.
So, in recognition of success in sharing the joy of chamber music with generations of chamber music players, we present the 2018 Susan McIntosh Lloyd award, along with a check for $1,000, to the Chamber Music Center of NYC.
