Did you miss our April 6th livestream with Cal Wiersma? Want to revisit the highlights—or maybe just curious to see what it was all about?
Good news: the edited version is now available to watch!
In celebration of Maurice Ravel’s 150th birthday, violinist and chamber music coach Cal Wiersma led a special session tackling one of the most familiar—and often exasperating—pieces of advice in chamber music: “Just play together!” But what does that actually mean, and how do you do it?
Using Ravel’s String Quartet as a jumping-off point, Cal was joined by ACMP members Lori Horowitz, Corinna da Fonseca-Wollheim, Jeff Chasnow, and Ben Pfeifer. Together, they explored how ensembles can find a shared pulse, phrase as a unit, and navigate rubato, ritardando, and accelerando with clarity and confidence.
Part master class, part conversation, this session is packed with rehearsal strategies and musical insights you can bring into your own playing—whether you’re working on Ravel or any piece that calls for nuanced, expressive ensemble work.
