A handmade violin case by T.A. Timms & Son is to be auctioned by Ingles & Hayday at Sotheby’s in London on 28 March, with all proceeds going to the Perlman Music Program. The ‘Violin Collectors Case’, covered in ‘cognac’ hide, and lined in both ‘moss’ and ‘fern’ velvet has been signed by violinist Itzhak Perlman on the base of the under-neck pocket, and bears the inscription: ‘Handmade in England by T.A. Timms & Son, and donated to The Perlman Music Program by Desmond & Rachel Timms’. The case is valued between £600 and £800.
Founded by Toby Perlman in 1994, the Perlman Music Program provides summer courses, international tours and year-round mentoring for outstanding young violin, viola, cello, bass and piano students aged 12 years and above, regardless of background or financial means. The faculty is led by Itzhak Perlman.
